City of Brotherly Love

Long time no see, and this time I have actual travel updates for you instead of just yarn! Over Memorial Day weekend Wil and I visited Philadelphia for the wedding of a grad school friend (congrats, Mary!!). My insane desire to read every sign was thwarted by the limited amount of time we had in Philly, but it was still pretty awesome. We arrived on Friday and wandered around the neighborhood until we found a local who pointed us to a Yemeni restaurant...it was an amazing choice. The food was incredible, and we got enough bread to make breakfast all weekend (along with a little meat, cheese, and jam from the grocery)! Our apartment was in this neighborhood, which is super old and super adorable. The building we stayed in was built in the 1850s. Counterclockwise from top: shakshuka, some kind of lamb stew served "volcano style", and so.much.bread. On Saturday my phone clocked us at about 10 miles of walking, though I'd say it's more - we did a lot of slo

I'm running out of clever titles when I'm clearly just going to show you some yarn.

Who wants a yarn/food/dog update?? My loving brother chose the hardest project of all time as his future gift, which should be done in time for winter 2019-2020 (2020? what???). Both sides are knit at the same time, producing a mirror image in contrasting color on the opposite side. In case you're not familiar with the Rebel insignia, this is going to be a Star Wars scarf. This is knit with KnitPicks Stroll sock yarn, which is really quite squishy and soft. This is my Find your Fade shawl. It's going to take about 400g of yarn, it's probably going to be 8 feet long, it's going to take me a year to finish, and omg I can't put it down . In this image I'm transitioning to my second color (the green). I have 5 colors, and due to the construction, I'll bring color 1 back in at the very end as well. This is knit with a merino-silk blend from my favorite online yarn dyer, and the colors are just ridiculously stunning. Socks! I caught the bug! And when

I should just call this a craft blog at this point...

I am the crafting queen. It looks like I finish stuff fast, but it's because I start a bunch of projects all at once, and then it takes me forever to finish them...but I finish them all around the same time. It's a fancy trick. The one exception is still a surprise for the recipient, but I'll just let you know that Lorenzo the Llama is a reeeally quick crochet project. Take a look below! First we have the Melodia shawl, perfect for that one skein of yarn your friend gifted you at Christmas because she's the best. It's really easy, you don't have to purl at all (a big win for all the continental knitters out there), and it is so elegant. Yellow isn't normally my color but this is a deep, rich gold with flecks of everything else in it - an excellent accessory.  These aren't completely done, but once you've done one sock, you've done them all! Not really, but I'm holding onto the fact that I actually made a sock. And it fits! I eve
